About the Digital Policy Fellowship

As digital technologies continue to reshape economies and societies, India faces unique policy challenges in areas such as competition, platform regulation, AI governance, data privacy, and cybersecurity. Addressing these requires rigorous research, interdisciplinary analysis, and innovative regulatory thinking.

The Digital Policy Fellowship is a two-month program (June – July 2025) designed to equip final-year students and young professionals with the skills necessary to analyse and contribute to India’s digital policy landscape. Fellows will engage in live policy debates, conduct research on emerging regulatory challenges, and develop original insights that inform digital policy.

Opportunities and Learning Outcomes

Fellows will have the opportunity to:

Author a peer-reviewed issue brief that will be published by the Esya Centre.

Conduct cutting-edge research on digital policy topics, including platform governance, AI regulation, digital antitrust, and data protection.

Gain exposure to survey-based primary research methodologies and data- driven analysis.

Receive mentorship and feedback from senior Esya Centre researchers and external experts.

Attend and participate in stakeholder events hosted by government agencies, civil society organisations, and industry bodies.

Eligibility

Final-year students in law, economics, policy, and technology courses OR young professionals with up to two years of experience in law, policy, or a related field.

Prior demonstrated interest in digital policy and regulation through coursework, internships, or published work.

Application Process

Interested applicants must submit the following documents:

A one-page resume/CV.

A statement of purpose (max 500 words) detailing their interest in digital policy and how this fellowship aligns with their academic/professional goals.

A short policy memo (1000 words max) analysing a contemporary digital policy issue.

 

Applicants must email their submissions to mohit@esyacentre.org with a copy to meghna@esyacentre.org. The subject for the application mail should read “Application for Digital Policy Fellowship”. The last date for applications is April 11, 2025.

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for a case discussion interview, where they will analyse and present arguments on a real-world digital policy issue.

Additional Details

Stipend: INR 20,000 per month.

Duration: 2 months – June and July 2025 (with two days/week in person in New Delhi).

Time Commitment: Flexible, but applicants must be able to dedicate sufficient time to research and writing.
